Infinity (Gem)Stones, Worth Over $25M, Make Their Comic-Con Debut

Six gems totaling more than 150 carats were created in collaboration with Marvel and East Continental Gems.

Rare treasures with high and low price tags have long dotted the convention centre floor at San Diego Comic-Con, but none have likely ever reached the calibre of one of this year’s entries.

Six valuable stones that are designed to be a physical depiction of the Infinity Stones essential to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga are included in the Infinity Collection of Gemstones, which is the result of a collaboration between Marvel and East Continental Gems. And although the Infinity Stones, which are linked to many facets of the cosmos and have the power to alter reality, cannot be valued, the Infinity Collection has an estimated total worth that exceeds $25 million.

Adam Mirzoeff, president of East Continental Gems, came up with the concept for the ultra-rare collection while watching Avengers: Endgame with his children. Being in the precious stone industry, he was immediately attracted to the gems that have a prominent part in the superhero movies. According to Mirzoeff, “It was really significant for me to be watching that with my children when I saw the Time Stone onscreen and how essential it is to the overall story of the Marvel world.” Then he wondered, “Does Marvel really own an array of Infinity Stones?” Mirzoeff set out to make actual Infinity Stones in the best manner he knew how after realising they didn’t.

To depict each stone, known in Marvel legend as the Time, Space, Reality, Mind, Power, and Soul stones, Mirzoeff obtained genuine priceless jewels. He says, “I had to consider, ‘Which stone is worthy of the title?’ and reach into my safe and our collection.” Priority was given to colour, then quality, rarity, and cost of the stones. The six stones weigh more than 150 carats all together.

The collection is “cool and unexpected and extends the reach of the Marvel brand,” according to Paul Gitter, senior vp consumer products at Marvel. He also noted that “fans and collectors are a very important consumer for Marvel since they truly live the Marvel lifestyle every day and are always seeking to connect with the brand in new and unique ways.”

At Comic-Con, the collection is making its premiere at the Marvel booth. Mirzoeff asserts, “I know it will surpass my expectations, but I simply hope it will inspire the same emotion in the spectators.” The jewels will make their debut on Friday in a specially created Infinity Gauntlet that resembles the one Thanos wore in the movies. The gauntlet was created by Gentle Giant, a producer of high-end collector toys and consumer goods, to go with the collection. “We believed that being with their iconic bearer would help people identify these diamonds for what they are,” explains Mirzoeff.
