In the midst of the WWE board of directors’ inquiry into his alleged misbehaviour, Vince McMahon made his departure from the wrestling organisation official in a statement.
Vince McMahon has announced his departure from WWE in the midst of the continuing misbehaviour inquiry being carried out by the board of directors of the wrestling organisation, which is guaranteed to stun the professional wrestling community. As he approached 77 years old, Vince said in a statement to Variety, “I believe it’s time for me to resign as Chairman and CEO of WWE.”
“Vince McMahon wrote, “I would like to thank my family for largely contributing to our success, and I would also like to thank all of our past and present Superstars and employees for their dedication and passion for our brand. It has been a privilege to help WWE bring you joy, inspire you, thrill you, surprise you, and always entertain you.” He then thanked the WWE Universe and the WWE Universe’s past and present superstars. Most of all, I want to thank our audience for inviting us into their homes each week and choosing us as your entertainment. I have the utmost respect and regard for the generations of fans we have throughout the globe who have enjoyed our kind of sports entertainment in the past, do so now, and sometimes even adore it.”
Vince McMahon also disclosed what would happen to WWE after his departure, saying that his daughter Stephanie McMahon and WWE president Nick Khan would take over as co-CEOs and that Steph would also serve as chairwoman: “WWE will continue to entertain you with the same fervour, dedication, and passion as always, which gives our international audience comfort. I have complete faith that WWE will continue to succeed, and I pass over the reins to a remarkable team of Superstars, workers, and executives, including Chairwoman and Co-CEO Stephanie McMahon and Co-CEO Nick Khan.”
Finally, Vince McMahon wrote: “I will continue to help WWE in any manner I can as the largest shareholder. My sincere gratitude to our shareholders, corporate and community partners, board of directors, and staff for their leadership and support throughout the years. Then, now, always, and together”
For those who are unaware, a Wall Street Journal expose showed how Vince McMahon allegedly paid many women millions of cash (reportedly USD 12 million) to be silent about alleged relationships and wrongdoing. Vince McMahon retired from his positions as chairman and CEO of WWE in June, although he stayed on staff as head of creative, a position he is now also leaving.
Before delivering a promo about WWE’s upcoming phase, Stephanie McMahon paid tribute to her father Vince McMahon’s contributions to the organisation in this week’s SmackDown episode: “As the WWE Universe, we are eternally grateful for each and every one of you, but since Vince had the chance to express his gratitude to us, I believe this is the appropriate time for us to do so. Let’s complete it together.” The WWE Universe in attendance then joined Stephanie in a “Thank you, Vince” chant. Due to his unparalleled impact over the world of professional wrestling since the 1980s, Vince McMahon’s statement will undoubtedly have WWE fans in a bind.
