From coworkers to best friends! After decades, fans of Dawson’s Creek are still talking about the Joey, Pacey, and Dawson love triangle, but many viewers are even greater fans of Busy Philipps and Michelle Williams’ friendship, which all began on the teen drama.
Before Philipps joined the show as Joey’s (Katie Holmes) college roommate, Audrey Liddell, in season four of the WB series, Williams played Jen Lindley for three seasons. They clicked right together, and even after more than 20 years, the women are still very much a part of each other’s lives.
Over the years, the Busy Tonight star has joined her closest buddy on the red carpet and frequently exclaims how pleased she is of the Oscar nominee.
Philipps remarked on Instagram in September 2020, honouring Williams on the occasion of her 40th birthday, “We met 20 years ago, which makes no sense considering we’re still 27.” I sincerely wish I could be with my buddy tonight as we celebrate all that she has accomplished. And to express to her in person how eternally thankful I am that we crossed paths all those years ago because I can think of no one I’d rather experience life’s ups and downs, rejoice in all its joys, cry uncontrollably, laugh heartily, drink uncontrollably, and drink and not drink with.
The former Cougar Town star continued, “I can’t wait to be old someday with my friend and go to farmers markets in the country with [Michelle] — my long grey hair split in the middle and put firmly back in a bun, and her in some enormous sun hat, preserving her still gorgeous porcelain complexion.”
The post-show breakdown, Philipps and Williams’ preferred awards season custom, was revealed exclusively to Us Weekly in January 2021.
“After every awards ceremony, everyone was, of course, like, ‘Oh, we love seeing you at the award ceremonies together.’ Because she doesn’t reside in Los Angeles, we always wind up back at her hotel room, where we just undo together, the Girls5Eva star revealed.
Prior to entering Jon & Vinny’s, Philipps observed that the women remove their extensions, don sweats, and snuggle up. Because we don’t smoke, she jokingly said, “[We are] a little like old lady glamour, minus the smokes.”
In an interview with Us four months later, the host of the podcast “Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best” said she wouldn’t rule out working with Williams again soon. In 2018, Amy Schumer’s I Feel Pretty marked their last collaboration as a team.
She remarked in May 2021 that “everything fell into shape because my then-husband [Marc Silverstein] was directing it.” Maybe we can get Tommy [Kail] to direct something for the two of us now that Michelle has discovered he is also a director.
