The multi-instrumentalist American singer-songwriter Ben Harper has just revealed three headline performances for the east coast in February 2023. Harper will perform a number of shows in Australia as part of the SummerSalt travelling festival next year.
In addition to his SummerSalt performances, Harper will perform at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on February 7 before performing at Sydney’s State Theatre on February 8. He will give a headlining performance at Brisbane’s QPAC Concert Hall on Friday, February 10. Ticket sales start tomorrow, with a Live Nation pre-sale beginning on Wednesday, December 7th (6th December).
Harper is travelling in support of Bloodline Maintenance, his 17th studio album, which was released in July 2022 after being previewed with the tracks “We Need to Talk About It” and “Need to Know Basis.” Harper last performed in Australia in 2019 as part of that year’s Byron Bay Bluesfest.
Harper described his approach to composing and recording Bloodline Maintenance earlier this year: “It was like I was pushing forward and exploring into realms I had never gone before.”
“I’m beginning anew by kind of setting everything I’ve learnt from every other record on fire. And I was aware that the sounds I was hearing in my head were so unusual that I had to carry out much of the work on my own.
The SummerSalt event will include Harper at all eight of its stops in addition to Angus & Julia Stone, City and Colour, The Rubens, Middle Kids, and Alex the Astronaut. The festival run starts on January 27 at Stage 88 in Canberra and travels to Wollongong, Fremantle, Hobart, the Yarra Valley, Torquay, Coffs Harbour, and Southport before wrapping up. The selling of tickets has begun.
