Following their Oscars incident, Will Smith apologised to Chris Rock. Here’s how online users responded.

Following the fight between Chris Rock and Will Smith at the Oscars, the actor finally apologised to the comic in a YouTube video.

Will Smith apologised to Chris Rock, his family, his fans, and the rest of the celebrity community who were there when the brawl occurred on his YouTube channel after the 2022 Oscars in March. For those who are unaware, on the Oscars night, Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia before being hit by Smith on stage.

In the five-minute clip, Will Smith apologised to Chris Rock and discussed their current relationship dynamics. Smith made it plain that he would wait until Rock finds his footing before approaching the actor about the event since Rock is still not ready. When Rock is ready, though, Smith will be there to listen. He said that Jada did not order him to enter the stage and take action; rather, he made the hasty choice on his own. Smith concluded by promising a brighter future “I am aware of the confusion. I acknowledge the shock, but I assure you that I am utterly committed to spreading love, light, and joy.”

The opinions of the Twitter users were split, with some siding with Smith and accepting his apology while others saw the film as just a public relations stunt for the corporations who had fired Smith after the widely reported event. Some people also believed that Smith should not have apologised at all since they could relate to his first, violent response to the Oscars. Some people were particularly worried about Jada, who took the brunt of Smith’s behaviour but never received an apology from him.
