It’s been one month since House of Barrie opened its doors to Hollywood. Soon, every pad in LA will have its very own piece from owner Barrie Livingstone’s eclectic home furnishings and lifestyle store.
Livingstone, an interior designer to the stars (including Cher’s Malibu mansion), hosted a glamorous opening for his store in October, with guests including American Pie’s Tara Reid, Comedian CJ Franco, and Vanderpump Rules star Tom Schwartz.
House of Barrie is next-door neighbors to the Vanderpump Rules alumni Tom Sandy and Tom Schwartz’s lounge and restaurant, Schwartz & Sandys.
Characterizing itself as “a lifestyle and home furnishings brand influenced by design, function and form”, House of Barrie has a vast array of home furnishings on offer. It is no surprise that Livingstone is sharing his love of interiors with the world with his newest store. Livingstone is the expert, after all, he wrote a book about it. Seeing design visions come to life from conception to completion is always a rewarding endeavor. Barrie is no stranger to this, thanks to the countless number of home projects he has led the design on. From sun-drenched beachfront properties on Malibu Beach Road to hotel designs and beach clubs in Miami. Livingstone’s designs even take him internationally with his work on La Ensenada, a resort in Venezuela.
Tasked with maintaining the themes of peace and serenity that flow from the island, Livingstone was able to complete the designs for 130 2 bed/2 bath townhomes in a way that maintained and incorporated the Caribbean nature, creating a tranquil space for visitors to come.
For his most notable project, Cher’s Malibu mansion, Livingstone was hired to tie the final aspects of the house together, which meant working with the star to incorporate her pre-existing collections of antique gothic upholstery items and furnishings into the new home. Despite the challenge of preserving these items, while still making them flow effortlessly, Livingstone was able to design an iconic home with intrinsic, timeless detail.
Barrie excels in working for clients who often want to bring out certain themes throughout their home tackling all sorts of contemporary styles that include cultural themes such as Hispanic and Mediterranean. In a home located in Benedict Canyon, clients were looking for a space that had a clean, classic, and contemporary feel, with Mediterranean touches throughout. Aside from these major projects, he has also been featured in numerous shows on the Discovery Channel, TLC, BBC Four, Bravo and HGTV where Livingstone was one of the designers selected to help redesign the kitchen of the homeowner’s 1927 English Tudor home. In this episode, Barrie and the co-designer work tirelessly to transform the couple’s kitchen into modern-day luxury. On Bravo, Barrie was featured on Best Room Wins, where he competed against other designers and won the challenge to execute a Bohemian-styled room for homeowners.
